Historic Pioneer Trading Post lakefront cabin - Douglas Lake - Smoky Mountains

Step back in time at the historic Pioneer Trading Post. This is a genuine slice of real Appalachian history. This is not your typical “Cabin Rental.” The Pioneer is living record of a people, a land and their colorful ways. The pioneer is located in a rural setting on beautiful Douglas Lake in Sevierville, TN., just 15 minutes from Hwy 66. Hwy 66 is the gateway to the national park, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Skip the traffic and take the back-roads and short cuts from the Pioneer to surrounding attractions. (Maps will be provided).

The dovetail log buildings are typical of those found on the eastern frontier in the mid-1850s, and reflects the skills and techniques brought to the mountains by descendants of British and European immigrants. Originally built in Gatlinburg in the early 1800’s and relocated in the 1960’s to it’s new location. The home is comprised of several small cabins joined together to create a large 3200 sq. ft one level turn of the century frontier home. With ramps and wrap around decks, it easily accessible to the elderly, handicapped and small children.

The house sits on a 4-acre peninsula surrounded by calming waters of Douglas Lake. The home has been renovated with emphasis on hand-hewn and homemade. You will find early American chestnut walls and ceilings, vintage oak and heart pine floors, spinning wheels, church pews and butter churns, pie safes, cedar chests and family antiques throughout, yet with all the amenities of plush modern living.

You will find ample seating in the great room with three full sized couches and additional seating. Pull up a seat next to the fireplace and study the vintage hand-carved totem pole made by Chief Blue Cloud of the Cherokee Nation as a gift to the family. The totem pole originally stood outside the family store known as The Pioneer Trading Post in Gatlinburg, TN. the cabin’s namesake. The Pioneer was one of the very first stores in the small Appalachian town selling canned goods, hand woven blankets and Indian baskets and moon shine on the back step.

The cabin offers 4 beautifully decorated country- chic bedrooms, each with their own special charm and appeal. You will find 100% cotton sheets, feather pillows and authentic hand stitched quilts for the feel you only get at Granny’s house.

There is also a screened in sleeping porch with an antique 3/4 bed and a sitting area… a family favorite.

The kitchen is a chef’s dream with a 6 burner gas stove, a full range of modern cookware, Stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, Carrera marble counter tops and a 7’ antique porcelain sink.

The dining room seats 8 people at a handmade black walnut harvest table. There is additional seating at the kitchen island. There is also an outdoor kitchen with additional food prep and grilling area including extra refrigerator and an oak harvest table which seats ten.

Amenities include:

46-inch flat screen TV with stereo, DVD, I pod connection, XM Radio and Wi-Fi. In the poker room you will find a smaller 27-inch TV with DVD. Wrap around decks, large stainless steel BBQ, Fire pit, central heat and air, on demand water heater, ADT security system, gate, Jacuzzi, boat launch area and plenty of parking.

The house hosts 4 bathrooms. There is a large, modern two- person shower; three claw footed tubs with showers, two outdoor showers and a 6-person hot tub over looking the lake.

Enjoy the foot-trail around the woodland property and lovely landscaping with many secluded sitting areas with swings and hammocks to sit or lay back and take a load off. There is a fire pit as well as a yoga/ camping platform.

The cabin is ideal for the most memorable family occasions, small intimate wedding site, company retreat or just the two of you. Come, sit relax and watch the sun set on the grand old front porch. Everyone’s welcome here at the Pioneer Trading Post.

The property is on TVA dam controlled lake waters. This means that the waters are released to create energy. Therefore the lake is only full during the summer months on our cove. But the woodland area is beautiful all year round. Guests will enjoy exploring the open space of the lake bottom for treasures. But the best treasure to be found of all? Pioneer Trading Post!
